Wondering

A lot has been written recently about the signs of fascism appearing in America. Gessen's article that cites "fascist performance" is just one example, and all of these alert citizens to ominous actions by the current administration. Stealing an election would be, based on historical example, the next step toward a rupture of our democracy. All useful, all good.

But I am wondering why people need these reminders and examples of what happens when these signs appear. Did they not study history? Do they not know the eventual potential outcome of these actions in past times? And, by past, I mean within the lifetimes of our parents and grandparents. It is our duty as citizens of a republic to understand not only the benefits of our system of government, but also the threats to it.

These are threats right in front of us. We should not need to read about it to understand - we should already recognize and KNOW the risks presented. Let's get educated so we can notice and understand. In the meantime, use what is currently being published to arm yourself to stand up, citizens, to the threats to our republic from Trump, Barr and their acolytes.
