Ukraine

It isn't just a minor place in eastern Europe. Ukraine is the largest country by territory in Europe (not including Russia) and has a population of 45 million. It is a major grain producing nation and has important industrial and mining regions. When Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union, it constituted 20% of the Soviet industrial production and nearly 40% of its grain production. Russia would benefit greatly if it is able to reacquire the Ukraine, and would be a far more formidable adversary of the U.S and Europe. I offer this since our press provides no context or understanding of the importance of the Ukraine, under great pressure from Russia, to today's geopolitics.
