Facebook clueless

The abuse of Facebook data by Cambridge Analytica and others for political purposes is yet another example of the narrow understanding of the world by Zuckerberg and his minions.  Anyone who has studied widely, understands history and politics would have been keenly aware of the potential nefarious uses people would apply to the data access.

We have highly influential people, controlling expansive products and services who seem to know nothing, or care nothing, about how their inventions can be abused.  Their callowness cannot be explained merely by their youth.  They seem to lack even the patriotic sentiments that would motivate them to act with care.

They should be embarrassed and alarmed by what happened in the misuse of data - and so should we.

Solutions by regulation are needed, but that won't compensate for ignorance and profound lack of fundamental care.

Where in Washington is our Joseph Nye Welch?

When Sen. Joseph McCarthy attacked yet another with no foundation, and tried to stoke fear, one voice raised silenced him.

Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness[...]" When McCarthy resumed his attack, Welch interrupted him: "Let us not assassinate this lad further, Senator. You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?"

Our president attacks anyone who threatens his interests, and like McCarthy tries to undermine the institutions which protect our great republic.

Where is a member of the majority party in Congress, the Speaker, the Majority - a leader we can rely on to speak the words that will finally halt this dangerous president?  We need you to step forward, Republicans, in numbers that show the people you place the country first.  Watch the video of the recent interview with John Garamendi and take your cue.

And we need it now.
