Give a Little

Time for my liberal and conservative friends to act like grownups.

Liberals and Dems need to recognize that entitlements, and the earned benefit Social Security program, need changes. The demographics have changed, the math doesn’t work. Take a leadership role, and make a real plan to restore/preserve financial integrity – don’t just kick the can down the road.

Conservatives and Republicans need to stop whining about regulation, taxing the rich, etc. Weren’t you paying attention in Fall 2008, and since? We were paying attention from 2001 forward when gobs of money were made. And, if business is the job engine, why not use that $2T to innovate? Steve Jobs would have liked that.

Congressmen and Congresswomen – instead of a No NewTaxes pledge to one citizen, how about a pledge to all the citizens to do your constitutional job. I, for one, am for Simpson-Bowles.

Let’s recall the sacrifice of earlier generations and recognize all of us have to give up a little now.

No more bellyaching by the banks – you were either too stupid or too greedy to notice that the mortgage industry was off the rails – don’t be surprised if people are unhappy with your role in the debacle. (Bring back Glass-Steagall - It worked for almost 70 years!)

At least one of our parties needs to take a high road, if only so we are reassured there is one for our political class. We should have no more tolerance for the partisan orgy in progress in DC.

We’re a republic – you’re supposed to lead, get things done . So do it.

We need a TR type, who was strong on defense, protected the environment and took on anyone who broke or ignored the law. No less than 43 legal actions against scions of his own party.

And we need many more politicos whose main objective isn’t to get re-elected but instead to do the country’s business, and to abide by the oath of office they took. Civic Virtue is, unfortunately, in short supply.
